What scar therapy can help
Scar tissue forms when skin and underlying tissue heal after injury or surgery. Sometimes it heals neatly. Often it doesn't — the result can be tight, raised, sensitive, restrictive, or visually prominent. Scar therapy can help with:
- Caesarean section scars — even years later
- Laparoscopic / keyhole surgery scars
- Abdominal, knee, shoulder, hand and hip surgical scars
- Cosmetic surgery recovery
- Burn scars
- Keloid and hypertrophic (raised) scars
- Adhesions that limit movement
- Old injury scars that still feel tight or sensitive
How it works
Scar tissue is essentially collagen laid down in disorganised patterns. Older scars become harder to remodel — but not impossible. LLLT and Therapeutic Ultrasound work in parallel:
- LLLT (photobiomodulation) stimulates fibroblasts (the cells that build and remodel collagen) to lay down healthier, more elastic tissue
- Therapeutic ultrasound uses mechanical sound waves to physically break down dense scar fibres and improve local circulation
- Hands-on mobilisation helps free adhesions and restore movement
The result over a series of sessions: softer, flatter, less sensitive, more mobile tissue.
What a session looks like
- Assessment — when was the scar formed, what bothers you about it, what movement is restricted
- LLLT applied across and around the scar (8–15 minutes)
- Therapeutic ultrasound where the scar is denser or deeper
- Gentle scar mobilisation techniques
- Home techniques you can use between sessions

How many sessions will I need?
Most scars respond best to a series of 6 sessions over 4–8 weeks. Very old or dense scars may take longer; recent scars often respond faster. Visible change typically begins within 3–4 sessions — particularly softness, reduced redness, and improved movement.
Common questions
How old can the scar be?
There's no upper limit. Scars from decades ago can still be remodelled meaningfully. Older scars usually need more sessions, but the principles are the same.
Will it fade my scar visually?
Often yes — redness, height and sensitivity tend to reduce. Complete colour-matching to surrounding skin isn't always achievable, but most people are pleased with the improvement.
Does it help with keloid scars?
Yes — LLLT is one of the more effective non-invasive options for keloid management. Results vary by individual, and Hayley will tell you honestly what to expect.
Can I use scar therapy after recent surgery?
Yes — once the wound has closed (usually around two weeks) and you've been cleared by your surgeon. More on post-op recovery →
